Ideas for visiting Malta

ImageI must confess that Malta is on my priority travel list for the next 12 months, and as I am getting ready to plan the trip, I wanted to know from authorized sources – the Malta Tourism Authority – what are the best recommendations for someone that never been there.

What are the most interesting events scheduled for 2013?

Malta’s impressive historic capital Valletta forms the ideal backdrop for the 1st edition of the Valletta International Baroque Festival taking place now from 09-26 January  and the BOV Opera Festival taking place at Valletta’s baroque theatre Teatru Manoel in March 2013.

Art lover’s shouldn’t miss the exhibition Mattia Preti – Faith and Humanity (May-July 2013) celebrating the 400th birthday of this great Italian master painter who worked and lived in Malta for 40 years.

Fans of modern music will love the free mega concert Isle of MTV Malta Special on June 26thfeaturing international top-notch pop, rock and hip hop stars (exact line up of this year’s Isle of MTV will be published during springtime) as well as the Malta Jazz Festival in July.

Other tempting offers are:

Notte Bianca culture night in Valletta in September

Choir Festival in November

Festival Mediterranea celebrating 7,000 years of history in Gozo

What are the most frequent requests of tourists visiting Malta?

How to travel around on the island (rental car, bus or taxi), how to get to Gozo and Comino, if Malta’s cuisine is British (which is not…)

Why someone should visit Malta?

Some of the most important reasons are: fantastic mixture of Mediterranean, Oriental and British culture, plenty of culture and 7,000 years of history, Malta also has a modern face and trendy places/nightlife/clubbing/shopping/events, great climate (300 days of sun per year), a paradise for divers, sun sand and sea lovers and active people (climbing, hiking, biking…), the two sister islands Gozo and Comino are an additional experience as they are different from Malta (much greener, more rural and ideal for nature lovers and families)
